Sword of Mana

In my journey to complete as many RPG games as I can, I have finally arrived at the Mana franchise. Secret of Mana has been one of my favorite games of all time, and I’ve known about all the other games in the franchise, but not owning certain consoles make it hard to play these games, but some games were also not translated to English, and let’s be honest, I don’t understand Japanese. Several years later, most of the games in the franchise have finally been translated to English and have also been released on other consoles.

First up, Sword of Mana, which is a remake of the first game in the franchise, Final Fantasy Adventure. I actually played Final Fantasy Adventure when I was 13 years old. I rented the game from the local video rental shop. I didn’t feel like playing the black and white version, so it was great to see the game being remade with graphics that were very similar to Secret of Mana style.

The mechanics, even though mostly reworked, were extremely clunky, and the puzzles were pretty retarded at times. Like, running in circles around stones, or trying to find specific blocks to stand on that you can’t see. However, the story is pretty goofy and a lot of fun. It’s a fun and colorful experience.

My overall review: 8/10
